With Bernie Sanders beating Hillary Clinton in the latest New Hampshire poll, “The Nightly Show’s” Larry Wilmore was joined Thursday by a panel of guests who tried to explain the secret to Sanders’ success.

“So, what do you think is happening?” the Comedy Central show’s host asked. “Why do you think there’s so much passion for Bernie and none for Hillary right now?”

Actor Michael Rapaport said it’s because it’s cool to follow Sanders.

“It’s like going to a Grateful Dead concert,” he said. “It’s, like, the hipster young people and the old hippies, they’re all smoking weed and exchanging drugs.”

Ophira Eisenberg of NPR’s game show “Ask Me Another” credited Sanders for playing to the hipster crowd with his “artisanal, small-batch, community garden” persona.

And “Nightly Show” contributor Mike Yard took it back to high school, comparing Clinton to the school principal while Sanders is like the cool teacher you loved: “You see him in the hallway and you’re like, ‘What up, Mr. Sanders!’ “
