Senator and tea party darling Marco Rubio is—get this—being vetted for the vice presidency while also not being vetted for the vice presidency, according to a bevy of conflicting reports. So is Rubio being considered for Mitt Romney’s running mate or not? Well, according to Romney himself, Rubio is on the short list. So let’s just go with that answer, shall we? Holder May Face Contempt Vote Over “Fast and Furious”: House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said Tuesday that if Attorney General Eric Holder does not turn over documents related to the botched “Fast and Furious” weapons program, he could be held in contempt. Issa met with the nation’s top prosecutor for about 40 minutes Tuesday to procure the documents being sought by the congressional panel. He said after the meeting that if the Holder did not turn over at least some of the documents by Wednesday morning, the panel would consider a contempt measure. (Read more)
Krugman Says U.S. Will Be in Trouble if Romney Is Elected: Nobel Prize winner and New York Times columnist Paul Krugrman told Stephen Colbert on “The Colbert Report” on Monday that if Romney is elected, the U.S. will turn into Ireland—or at least into a country that is just as economically troubled. “Ireland is Romney economics in practice. They’ve laid off a large fraction of their public workforce, they’ve slashed spending, they’ve had extreme austerity programs,” he said. “They have 14 percent unemployment, 30 percent youth unemployment, zero economic growth. Ireland is a demonstration — Ireland is America’s future if Romney becomes president.” (Read more)
Edwards’ Ex-Mistress Tells All: Rielle Hunter, the woman famous for having an out-of-wedlock child with a very married John Edwards, says she wants her daughter to know how she came to be, as it were. So Hunter did what any loving and caring mother would do: She wrote a book. And through that book, little Quinn will get to find out many interesting details about her father. For example, she’ll find out that he had several mistresses and was “temporarily insane” in 2008 when he at first denied that the baby girl was his. Oh, and since this is a book, the world will get to find out all these intimate details as well. (Read more)
