One big problem with the recent calls for a Western military role in the Ukraine conflict is the Chernobyl reactor, whose core exploded in 1986 and must be watched forever. Japanese officials have revised the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi plant to level 7, making it the second such disaster in history, the only one since the Chernobyl meltdown. An important lesson that should be reinforced by the ongoing disaster in Japan is to worry more about the elimination of those nuclear weapons designed to explode, and another is to be concerned about the prospect of sabotage of nuclear power plants.
