Study: Herpes Drug Can Slow HIV Progression

A study published in The Lancet has found that aciclovir, a drug frequently used to treat genital herpes, could "help people with HIV infection stay healthy for longer," according to Dr. Jairam Lingappa, leader of the research team out of the University of Washington in Seattle.

Herpes Is Common Among New Yorkers

Twenty-six percent of adult New Yorkers are infected with the virus that causes genital herpes. That's seven points above the national average. A new study by the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene found that the disease is more common among women, African-Americans and gays.
